Engagement Committee

Conveners: John Welshofer, 704-846-5676 and Frank Colunga, 704-707-9811

Engagement is the emotional connection individuals have to their parish community. It’s how they feel about their church, their sense of belonging and active participation in parish life. In the spirit of support and encouragement, the Engagement Committee strives to identify and create opportunities to develop and enhance the relationship between parishioners and the Church and its ministries.

The Engagement Committee oversees all the components of engagement that are outlined in the Pastoral Plan for 2008-2011, including the following committees:

Welcoming Committee: Maureen Regele, 704-541-0101
Communications Committee:  Jim Stablein, 704-541-6250
Leadership Development: Janet LeClair, 704-544-2536
Engagement Outreach:  Don Garbison, 704-661-9496

Living Your Strengths
A major initiative of the Engagement Committee, Living Your Strengths seeks to help individuals identify their God-given talents and learn to appreciate the strengths of others.

The purpose of Living Your Strengths is to take steps toward the discovery and fulfillment of a calling. It will teach you that to discover your calling, you simply need to listen to the talents God gave you — the ways in which, you, as a unique individual, naturally think, feel and behave. The journey will show you that to fulfill your calling, you simply need to follow and build upon your greatest talents to develop strengths. In its essence, the fulfillment of God’s calling for you means making the most of the nature he gave you.     (The Living Your Strengths Journey, p. 8)

ME25 Survey
The ME25 Survey, developed by the Gallup Organization, measures member engagement in congregations and helps direct St. Matthew's efforts to create a sense of belonging and nurture the spirituality of its members. St. Matthew has used this helpful tool on three separate occasions to measure engagement since 2008. The most recent survey was conducted in September of 2011.
