Pastor’s Message

 Fr. Patrick T. Hoare, Pastor

Warm greetings to all from the St. Matthew faith community!

St. Matthew is a very special place, and I say that not because I am the pastor, but because of the impact it has made in my own life and in the lives of many others.

In 1995, I moved to Charlotte due to a job transfer. Back then, St. Matthew's campus was just one multi-purpose building; we had Mass in the gym and other rooms were used for different things on different days. I became involved as a volunteer, and St. Matthew quickly became "my home away from home." The joyful and vibrant liturgies and the sense of the Spirit that united us invigorated my faith and helped me discover the true beauty of the Church while glimpsing the potential of what Jesus intended His Church to be. In no small part due to this parish, I heard, and answered, the call to serve the Church as a priest.

Fast forward to today. St. Matthew has grown to be the largest Catholic church in the United States, with over 10,000 registered families, and I am privileged to now be its pastor. Despite its size, the many ways to get involved help every person to "connect", so that, miraculously, we are truly a family. St. Matthew reflects the universality of the Church's mission, enabling people from all walks of life to find a home here and grow closer to the Lord as we together discover the Truth and Beauty of the Church's Tradition and share God's love with those we are called to serve.

If you are currently a member of St. Matthew, we are glad you are here and rejoice in the Spirit's movement in your life. And if you are new to Charlotte or just visiting, we invite you to learn more about our parish; we think it is too special not to share!

May God bless you in the way you most need Him today!
