Our solemn prayer service, offered on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm in the chapel (main campus), includes a blessing with the relic of St. Peregrine.
The devotion to St. Peregrine and the special prayer service began in 2009, started by then longtime administrative assistant for the parish, Michele Gauvin. Gauvin’s late father had a devotion to the saint whom he prayed to during his bout with cancer. With the approval of Msgr. John J. McSweeney, pastor of St. Matthew at the time, Gauvin reached out to Father Chris Krymski, director of the National Shrine of St. Peregrine and associate pastor at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica in Chicago, to help her get the prayer service started at St. Matthew. Over the years, Father Chris has visited St. Matthew several times, with a special visit in 2019 for the 10-year anniversary of the prayer service.

St. Peregrine has been called the wonder worker for his intercession on behalf of those living with serious illness. He is the patron saint of all who are afflicted by cancer, leg ailments or any life-threatening disease. He is also the patron saint of at-risk youth.
