Mission

The Girl Scouts of St. Matthew strive to enrich their Catholic faith through the Girl Scout Promise which states, “On my honor, I will try to serve God and my country, to help people at all times and to live by the Girl Scout Law.” Girl Scouts support various ministries and agencies within the church and the community at large. We believe that we can teach our girls that they are part of a big community and that they can make a difference no matter how small the act. We hope to be an organization where girls grow in self-respect, self-awareness, and faith.

Description of agencies served: Girl Scouts assist with Mel’s Diner, Levine and Dickson Hospice House, Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte, Loaves and Fishes and many other groups.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are always looking for interested leaders and volunteers. Usually, these are parents of Girl Scouts. Leaders run a Girl Scout troop or help another leader, planning activities, and meetings for their troops. We are part of the Girl Scout Hornet’s Nest Council and Meck 13 Service Unit. We meet at least once a year as church troops, however, there is a good deal of contact between the troops during the year at Girl Scout events. We also sell cookies at the church and hold a Girl Scout Mass each year in March. The current leaders are great as avenues of information and suggestions.

Time Commitment

It varies depending upon the leaders’ choices of activities for their troop.
