Homeless Relief Ministry
Mission
The Homeless Relief Ministry (HRM) is a collaborative effort between the parishes of St. Matthew, St. Peter, and St Vincent de Paul. Our focus is assisting our homeless brothers, sisters, and families into permanent apartments/homes in the Charlotte area. We pick up donated furniture, move the furniture into the home, and decorate the living space with care.
One of our foundational principles is that individuals and families must be recommended by one of our partner agencies. The individuals/families should also be getting counseling and other support from the agency which helps ensure a successful transition. We primarily work with Supportive Housing Communities. HRM also supports the Diocese of Charlotte Refugee Resettlement Office and a few other agencies.

Volunteer Opportunities
Most of our volunteer work is done on weekdays and in many cases, it is scheduled with only 3-7 days lead time. We operate in the greater Charlotte area. You have the option to volunteer when your schedule permits. Our work is always a team effort, done with joy in serving our neighbors while putting our faith into action.
- Drivers: We need folks with pick-up trucks and qualified drivers to operate a rental truck when needed.
- Heavy Lifters: People who are willing and able to lift heavy furniture i.e., dressers, couches and tables. We load our trucks and move furniture into the home which may involve carrying items up staircases into the apartments.
- Decorating Team: Our team organizes and decorates the home. In part, this group rolls up their sleeves to determine where the furniture is placed, organizes the kitchen shelves, set up the linens in bathrooms and bedrooms, etc.
- Food & Meal Donations: Provide fresh foods and/or a welcome home meal for the newly housed individuals or families.
