Dear Parishioners,

As we continue to celebrate the joyful news of the Waxhaw campus becoming an independent parish, we are excited to share that Very Reverend Benjamin Roberts, DMin, V.F., has been appointed to what will become the new Waxhaw parish.

Over the coming months, I will work closely with Father Roberts and the Diocese of Charlotte to help ensure a smooth and seamless transition from our Waxhaw campus to its establishment as a new parish community. While this marks the beginning of a new chapter, we remain united in faith, gratitude and excitement for all that God has in store for both St. Matthew and the Waxhaw parish.

Please take a moment to view a special video message from Father Roberts to the Waxhaw community below.

At the same time, I share some bittersweet news for our parish family. Reverend Binoy Davis has been appointed Parochial Administrator of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Forest City, North Carolina, beginning July 1, 2026.

Father Davis has faithfully served as Parochial Vicar of St. Matthew since 2014. Throughout his time at St. Matthew, he has been a joyful and uplifting presence in our parish. His warm smile, jovial personality, love of sports and deep pride in our parish community have touched the lives of so many. While we will greatly miss seeing him around campus, we are filled with gratitude for his ministry and know he will be a tremendous blessing to his new parish.

Receptions honoring Father Davis will be held June 28 after the 9 and 10:45 am Masses at the main campus and June 21 after the 11 am Mass at the Waxhaw campus. We hope you will join us in thanking him for his years of faithful service and wishing him well in this next chapter of priestly ministry.

I am pleased to welcome Very Reverend Herbert Burke, V.F., to St. Matthew as Parochial Vicar. Father Burke joins us after serving as pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for the past 25 years. We look forward to the many gifts and experiences he will bring to our parish and invite you to extend a warm St. Matthew welcome beginning July 1, 2026.

Lastly, I am delighted to welcome Deacon Patrick Martin, who will be ordained in the spring of 2027, to St. Matthew for the summer. Deacon Martin was baptized at St. Matthew in 2001 and is a sports enthusiast. We look forward to welcoming him back this summer.

There are many exciting things ahead for our parish family. During this season of transition and new beginnings, we ask for your continued prayers and well wishes for Father Roberts, Father Davis and Father Burke as they each embark on the next step in God’s plan for their ministry and for our respective parish communities.

May God continue to bless our parish family abundantly.

Yours in Christ,

Father Patrick Cahill
