St. Matthew > St. Matthew Security Policy

Dear St. Matthew Parishioners,

In light of recent national and world terrorist events, effective immediately, St. Matthew is implementing additional measures and precautions for the safety and security of all parishioners and visitors. You will notice the presence of uniformed law enforcement at all Masses; please know that non-uniformed law enforcement is also present in the worship space.

Items no longer permitted in any St. Matthew worship space includes but is not limited to:

  • large bags
  • backpacks
  • duffle bags
  • diaper bags
  • fanny packs
  • laptops
  • suitcases
  • computer cases
  • luggage
  • seat cushions with covers, zippers or pockets of any kind
  • video equipment
  • laser pointers
  • baby strollers
  • any device that would allow concealment of an item
  • any item in the judgment of the clergy and staff that would pose a safety or security hazard

The only exception to this is a container for medical supplies and/or equipment. This must be clearly marked and available for inspection. Please be aware that Ministers of Hospitality/Ushers, Welcome Desk Greeters, and designated staff have the right to ask you to open bags and view bag contents. They may also ask that bags be secured in your vehicle before entering any worship space.

It is critical that each of us is vigilant with reporting any activity that appears suspicious. Please contact either a Minister of Hospitality/Usher, Welcome Desk Greeter or staff with any concerns you may have.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Monsignor John J. McSweeney
