Mission
Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, blessed to be an active part of the Liturgy of the Mass, serve the Eucharistic Catholic community of St. Matthew by assisting the celebrant through the distribution of The Body and Blood of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, on Saturday evening and Sunday celebrations of the Mass, holy days of obligation, and other special celebrations of the Eucharist. We warmly welcome all interested parishioners called to join this sacred ministry, as our Lord lovingly welcomes all of us into His holy family.
Volunteer Opportunities
An extraordinary minister of holy Communion is a term used in the Roman Catholic Church for lay people who assist in distributing Communion to members of the congregation during Mass. Volunteers need to attend training before being commissioned to serve. Once commissioned, volunteers are able to select preferred Mass times and days. Schedules are provided for three months at a time. All scheduling is done through a secured online application, however, access to a computer is not required to participate in the ministry.
Time Commitment
The initial training is two hours.
Arrive at the scheduled Mass at least fifteen minutes before the Mass start time.
