For 24 years, our parish family has come together through the Monsignor McSweeney World Hunger Drive to put our faith into action. Together, we continue to build a Bridge of Hope by feeding the body, mind and spirit of our brothers and sisters in need through food assistance, education and sustainable community projects both locally and around the world.
As we launch our 24th Annual Monsignor McSweeney World Hunger Drive, we invite you to join us once again. With your prayers, participation and generosity, we can continue bringing hope to families in Haiti, Puerto Rico, India, Venezuela and our local community while sharing Christ’s love with those who need it most.
The drive will be conducted in two parts:
Part One: Fundraising:
The fundraising campaign will take place from July 11 – August 2. The goal is to raise $400,000 which will be used to:
- Provide funding for the Missionaries of the Poor to purchase food and critical supplies for distribution in Cap Haitien.
- Continue to fund sustainability projects including subsidizing the education of students at St. Marc School; expanding the sewing trade school and the agricultural trade school; starting a welding and solar trade school; continuing to invest in irrigation, wells for clean water, and solar power initiatives; and continuing to support tilapia harvest and egg production.
- Our support is also urgently needed in Venezuela. Following the devastating earthquakes that struck in late June, communities are facing tremendous loss and uncertainty. Leaders from the Monsignor McSweeney World Hunger Drive have been in contact with Father José Martín Vegas, whose parish, school and orphanage we support. While they are grateful that no loss of life has been reported within their ministry, they suffered significant structural damage and are facing critical shortages of food, clean water, medicine and electricity. A significant portion of this year’s donations will help provide relief and support recovery efforts for those affected.
- Efforts will continue to support feeding a boy’s hostel in India.
- Provide food and funds to assist Charlotte area food banks.

Part Two: Meal-packing:
Join us for the in-person meal-packing event which will take place in the St. Matthew Parish Center on Saturday, August 15. The goal is to assemble 300,000 meals. It takes a village – please consider signing up to help! Meals from our meal-packing event this year will be sent to Atulado Ministries in Cuba where the meals will be distributed to churches feeding the poor in their communities.
