St. Matthew > News > May Crowning

The May Crowning of Mary is a cherished tradition within the Church, which involves placing a crown of flowers or a garland on a statue of Mary, signifying her as the Queen of Heaven and Earth. While Mary, the Mother of God, is revered and celebrated all year long, May is a special month to honor her. The choice of May is significant because it is associated with the arrival of spring, a season of new life and renewal. It is fitting because Mary’s “yes” gave all of humankind the opportunity for new life in Christ.

We will honor Mary with a crowning on Sunday, May 5, at the 9:30 am Mass in Waxhaw and on Sunday, May 12, at the 10:45 am Mass in Ballantyne.

All children are invited to bring flowers and process in for the crowning.
